The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) recently convened to discuss the SNE (Schedule of New Expenditure) for operational expenditures related to the project Solarization of Existing Water Supply Schemes of PHE (Public Health Engineering) & Clean Drinking Water for All (CDWA).
The PDWP meeting focused on ensuring efficient allocation and utilization of resources for the long-term sustainability of water supply schemes, particularly through solarization. This initiative aims to reduce reliance on conventional energy sources and promote the use of renewable energy, thereby lowering operational costs and ensuring uninterrupted water supply to communities across Balochistan.
The project encompasses two major components:
- Solarization of Existing Water Supply Schemes: This involves upgrading the current water supply systems by installing solar-powered equipment, enabling these systems to function even in remote areas with inconsistent electricity access. The PHE department plays a critical role in maintaining these schemes and ensuring clean water reaches the population.
- Clean Drinking Water for All (CDWA): Aiming to provide safe drinking water to the masses, this component of the project focuses on improving water filtration, storage, and distribution systems. Solar energy will not only help in powering these systems but will also ensure their continuous operation, even during power outages.
During the meeting, discussions were held regarding the operational expenditures, which include costs associated with maintaining solar equipment, ensuring the sustainability of water schemes, and addressing any technical challenges. The PDWP deliberated on how to optimize the available resources for the best outcomes, focusing on long-term benefits for both rural and urban populations.
The PDWP’s approval of the operational budget will be a key step in advancing the solarization project and the CDWA initiative, aligning with the government’s broader goals of promoting renewable energy solutions and ensuring access to clean drinking water for all.
