Balochistan has prioritized the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which will enable the province to contribute significantly to Pakistan’s efforts of joining the league of upper-middle-income countries by 2030. Balochistan, as part of Pakistan, embraced the SDGs 2030 agenda following a unanimous resolution of the national parliament.

The provincial government conducted discussions on the post-Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) with all stakeholders, aiming to coordinate and strengthen efforts at both provincial and local levels to achieve Balochistan’s sustainable development and poverty reduction targets. The consultation process highlighted the importance of provincial categorization of SDGs, improved data collection, and the enforcement of monitoring mechanisms.

The seven pillars of Pakistan’s Vision-2025 are fully aligned with the SDGs and provide a comprehensive long-term strategy for inclusive growth and sustainable development, which Balochistan is actively pursuing. At the provincial level, an SDGs Monitoring and Coordination Unit, in coordination with UNDP, is being established to serve as a provincial coordinating entity, with connections to the federal unit and similar bodies in other provinces.
