ECNEC approves five Balochistan schemes for irrigation, Gwadar water supply and road connectivity, including Lasbela Canal, Mirani Dam water supply and the Buleda–Proom–Chedgai and Dirgi Shahbozai–Tounsa Sharif roads.
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has considered and approved five development schemes pertaining to the Government of Balochistan, at a meeting held in Islamabad on Friday, 9 October 2026. The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister, with the participation of senior federal and provincial officials. The Minister for Planning & Development, Government of Balochistan, attended the meeting in person. The Additional Chief Secretary (Development), the Secretary Communication & Works (C&W), the Secretary Public Health Engineering (PHE), and other members of the provincial delegation participated through an online link from the Planning & Development Department, Quetta. Federal and provincial stakeholders were represented at the senior official level. Among the various agenda items considered during the meeting, five proposals pertaining to the Government of Balochistan were placed before the forum for consideration. The proposals were examined in detail, with particular reference to their technical soundness, financial implications and alignment with provincial development priorities. After detailed deliberations and examination of the relevant technical, financial and other aspects, ECNEC considered and approved the proposals and development schemes pertaining to Balochistan. 1. Construction of Water Supply Scheme to Gwadar Town from Mirani Dam, under Balochistan Socio Economic Development Projects (Phase-III) Water Supply & Urban Infrastructure 3. Construction of Road from Buleda to Proom — 66.90 km (Revised) Roads & Communication 4. Construction / Up-gradation of Dirgi Shahbozai (N-70) to Tounsa Sharif (N-55) Road — 3rd Revised (revised length 210 km) Roads & Communication 5. Construction of Road from Proom to Chedgai — 90.20 km (Revised) The approval of these schemes marks an important step in advancing the province’s development initiatives through the relevant federal approval forum. It will support the implementation of the approved schemes in accordance with applicable procedures, and reflects the continued engagement of the federal and provincial governments on Balochistan’s infrastructure and service-delivery priorities. The approved interventions address two of the province’s most pressing needs: reliable irrigation and potable water supply, and improved road connectivity between major population centres and trade corridors. Their implementation is expected to strengthen the provincial economy and improve access to basic services for the communities they serve.
