The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP), chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary (Development), Planning & Development Department, Government of Balochistan, convened on 3rd July 2026 and approved the Construction of Water Supply Scheme to Gwadar Town from Mirani Dam. The project aims to provide a reliable and sustainable source of potable water to Gwadar Town, address its growing water requirements, strengthen existing water supply infrastructure, and support the area’s long-term socio-economic and urban development.
The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP), under the chairmanship of the Additional Chief Secretary (Development), Planning & Development Department, Government of Balochistan, convened its meeting on 3rd July 2026 to deliberate upon development initiatives of strategic significance for the province.
During the meeting, the forum undertook a detailed scrutiny and comprehensive evaluation of the proposal titled “Construction of Water Supply Scheme (WSS) to Gwadar Town from Mirani Dam.” The project was examined in detail, with particular emphasis on its technical feasibility, development objectives, financial implications, sustainability, and anticipated benefits for the people of Gwadar Town.
Following extensive deliberations, the PDWP considered the project for implementation, acknowledging its significance in addressing the persistent and growing water supply requirements of Gwadar Town. The proposed scheme is intended to provide a more reliable and sustainable source of potable water while strengthening the town’s overall water supply infrastructure.
The Water Supply Scheme from Mirani Dam is envisaged as an important intervention to meet the increasing water demand of Gwadar, particularly in view of the town’s expanding population and growing economic and developmental activities. The project is expected to enhance the availability and reliability of potable water, strengthen existing water supply arrangements, and support the long-term socio-economic development of the area.
The initiative is also expected to contribute towards improving the quality of life of the local population by ensuring access to a dependable water supply and creating a stronger foundation for sustainable urban development. By addressing a critical basic infrastructure requirement, the project will support the broader development objectives of Gwadar and the province of Balochistan.
The PDWP emphasized the importance of ensuring that the project is planned and implemented in accordance with approved technical standards, applicable financial rules, and prescribed procedures, with a particular focus on transparency, efficiency, sustainability, and judicious utilization of public resources.
The forum further directed the concerned departments and executing agencies to undertake all necessary measures in accordance with the relevant rules and regulations and to maintain close coordination among all stakeholders to ensure smooth, timely, and effective implementation of the project.
The meeting was attended by senior officers of the Planning & Development Department and representatives of the concerned departments and executing agencies.
